I joined the Department of Health and Social Security in May 1980 after obtaining an honours degree in Geography. I have been a :-

• Visiting officer calling at the homes of Benefit recipients.

• A Supplementary benefit officer processing claims.
• Social Fund officer, assessing Crisis Loans, Community care grants and Budgeting loans.
• Income Support Benefit team supervisor. Line manager to twelve staff and technical expert for the team.
• Reception Supervisor at a busy Inner City office.
• Computer support officer.
• Departmental Office Infrastructure Completion (DOIC) Implementation officer.

• Job Seekers' Allowance team leader.
• First Line Local Support (FLSM) Providing IT support across West Yorkshire.
