First Line Support Manager
A champion for new technology, I created a website, made it available and advertised it to staff in the Bradford BDC office. A site for information that was current and relevant. In it I provided links to the management information pages, intranet sites, and the electronic District phone list.
Identifying a need for better IT awareness, I conceived, developed and introduced the Information Technology Advisory Group (ITAG). To find the initial level of understanding I produced a questionnaire and sent it to staff. I invited a team of IT literate colleagues to form the ITAG with whom issues raised were discussed and decisions made on how to proceed. I conducted presentations, issued Powerpoint shows, published aide memoires and gave out Typing tutorial CDs. Customer feedback confirmed that general IT knowledge was improved. The creation of the ITAG team was identified as one of the year’s achievements by the Site manager.
A Telephone team leader wanted a formula in a spreadsheet that would identify a customers local office once their postcode was input. I designed a programe that did this and explained it to her. The result was that the telephone team could process telephone calls quicker.
I was part of the IT team that introduced Early Office Infrastructure (EOI) for all the Bradford offices, and was the Site implementation officer for the Bradford BDC. I drew up plans and arranged the placing of new equipment on each desk, for each user, organizing and monitoring the roll out from beginning to end.
I ensured that customer service was maintained during a critical period when the office was subjected to a spate of break-ins and computer thefts. I relocated staff and equipments to counter the threat, and maximize the use of the P.Cs
Taking the lead in the “Refresh” and “Agile” projects in which a new generation of workstations and software applications were introduced to the Bradford site, I was instrumental in improving IT for over two hundred and fifty staff.
I maintain the Information technology hardware and software access for staff in the West Yorkshire region, enabling effective use of personal computers and telephony for them.
